Just ME Ranch

Where Longhorns Bring A Smile to Your Face

Our goal at Just Me Ranch is to raise the complete Longhorn.  We want an animal with good size, appropriate to the pasture available, able to flesh out with minimal supplemental feed.  We want sound structure with straight backs, good hip and strong sound legs.  These are the things nature fortified in the longhorn during nearly 400 years surviving on their own.  We also want to revel in the marvelous colors and patterns presented in the Longhorn breed and luxuriate in the many shapes of their horn.  Of course, as most would, we want to encourage as much horn as may be possible.

Introducing our TLBAA 2007 Tip to Tip and Total Horn Champion “Win By A Mile”.   Division  III  Class A   TH = 76 5/8”   TTT = 62 7/8”.

Many hours of research scouring pedigrees on the Internet and viewing as many cattle as we could, both on line and in person, helped us define what we wanted in our herd.  We decided we would build our small group of cattle around WinchesterWinchester had more tip-to-tip symmetrical horn than any Show Champion in history, 67" at 37 months. He was the 2000 International Jr. Bull Champion.  Winchester bred and raised by Darol Dickinson reached a mature weight greater than 2000 lbs and a tip-to-tip measurement of over 70”.  We chose a young bull by Winchester out of Do Over.  According to Darol, Do Over is the best performing daughter of Overwhelmer.

Win Over is the ’03 bull calf we chose to lead our program and he has proven to be everything we could have hoped.  Win Over entered into the ’05 & ’06 Longhorn Showcases and came home both years with a very close third place in tip-to-tip.  Win Over exceeded 60” by 30 months and passed the coveted 70” mark before his fourth birthday.  We feel that Win Over has the ancestry to depart the size, hip, conformation and horn we are looking for in our herd.  Win Over’s temperament is that of a big playful dog and if I am within 50’ of him in the pasture he will walk over and lower his head to have his ears scratched.   Win Over is pictured below but the camera does not capture his many colors.  While he looks largely white he is roan with black, red, gold and brindle spots throughout.  His neck is a rich bronze brindle that shines like copper in the sun.  His off-spring have are coming in all colors from red to black and even grulla; solids, pintos, line-backs, speckled and brindled.

PCC Keyman (70+”) (2000+) was perhaps the most complete son of Gunman, now deceased due to an unfortunate accident. We acquired a son of PCC Keyman out of J.R. Maggie, a large daughter of Gunman. Both Keyman and Maggie go back to J.R. Rangago on the dam’s side. This ’05 bull is Just ME Magman and he will be used to cross with many our Win Over daughters.

PCC Keyman offspring are known to put on horn after the third year.  Just ME Magman has extreme curve to his horns most likely from his great grand sire JR Rangago.  Magman has grown more than 20" in total horn this year.

Most recently, we purchased a son of Jamakizm, (74”), out of a Winchester (70 3/8”) daughter, Winning Blade. Winning blade is a young cow projecting to be 67” tip-to-tip. We will watch this young bull, (The Kizmway), with the hope he will grow to his potential and one day become our herd sire to build on the foundation laid down by Win Over and supplemented with Just ME Magman.

We invite you to share in our vision of the complete Longhorn. Please take a look at our sale offerings and contact us for any information you desire.
