Where are you located?
We are located in Alvin, TX. Approximately 25 miles south of Houston and 15 miles northwest of Galveston.

What is the name of your ranch and how did you arrive at that name?
Just ME Ranch incorporates our brand ME which stands for Mike & Edith.

How long have you been raising Texas Longhorns?
We have been raising Texas Longhorns since 2001.

How did you get started?
We bought a piece of land and needed to maintain the agricultural exemption. We planned on beef cattle but I have wanted a Longhorn steer since I was a young man. Investigation into Longhorns led us to raising Longhorns instead of the Brangus we expected to raise.

Tell us about yourself, (i.e. hobbies, family, and other interests)
Currently Longhorns occupy the breadth of my hobbies.

What breeder(s) or individual(s) were instrumental in getting you started?
Joe Assad sold us our first three cows and convinced us to raise Longhorns instead of Brangus.

What breeder(s) do you consider the most influential in the world of longhorns and why?
There are many influential Longhorn breeders. Some are influential due to their breeding prowess some owe their influence to longevity or involvement in Longhorn organizations. Some are influential due to their advertising dollars spent. One in particular expresses his influence in all these ways. Darol Dickinson may have the longest running genetic program in Texas Longhorns. He is without equal in his approach to building and maintaining the COMPLETE Longhorn.

Tell us about your breeding program.
After the accolade given Darol above it shouldn't surprise you that we have based our program on the solid foundation of DCCI genetics.

Who is your main herd sire(s)?
Win Over is our main herd sire; he is an '03 bull calf by Winchester out of Do Over. Do Over is acclaimed by Darol as the best performing daughter of Overwhelmer. Win Over placed second and third in tip to tip and total horn in the ’05 & ’06 TLBAA Horn Showcases. Win Over exceeded 60" by 30 months and passed the coveted 70" mark before his fourth birthday. He has continued to grow horn and at this time is 75" ttt and 88" th. He is the longest horned son of Winchester. Win Over bears a remarkable resemblance to his sire, Winchester. We have not had an opportunity to weigh Win Over but judging by his sire and seeing them side by side we believe Win Over joins him in the 2000lb/70"+ club. We feel that Win Over has the ancestry to depart the size, hip, conformation and horn we are looking for in our herd. He has a beautiful copper colored head and neck that shines brilliantly in the sun. He has brindling in his face and neck and his many spots come in red, black, gold, and brindled. He carries on Winchester's tri-color and brindling genes. He is also passing on his most wonderful gentle disposition. Win Over has sired every color and pattern imagined. His calves have been red, black, grulla, dun, red roan, blue roan, line-backed, pinto, and speckled with most exhibiting brindling by age two. We are very happy with our Winchester/Overwhelmer son and remain pleased with what he has to offer the Longhorn breed. Win Over's first two daughters at age three are predicting to go 68" and 71" respectively.

What do you consider the most importand traits for longhorn bulls and cows?
It is impossible for me to name the most important trait for a Longhorn. The animal must be examined as a whole. One animal may excell in one trait while another exhibits another trait more strongly. Our goal at Just Me Ranch is to raise the complete Longhorn. We want an animal with good size, appropriate to the pasture available, able to flesh out with minimal supplemental feed. We want sound structure with straight backs, good hip and strong sound legs. These are the things nature fortified in the longhorn during nearly 400 years surviving on their own. We also want to revel in the marvelous colors and patterns presented in the Longhorn breed and luxuriate in the many shapes of their horn. Of course, as most would, we want to encourage as much horn as may be possible.

Which of your cows is your favorite and why?
Since I am unable to pick out a single important trait it is impossible to pick a single favorite cow. Many of them qualify as a favorite for different reasons. Win By A Mile a cow by Mile Marker X Winchester daughter is of course a favorite because of her long horn. She has won multiple bronzes over mutiple years at the TLBAA Horn Showcase. She is currently 75" ttt and 90" total horn. Unranga an Unlimited daughter is a favorite because of her beautiful high triple twist horn as well as her big frame and parker brown coloring. Taba Ranger a Tabasco daughter is a favorite because of her perfect Texas Twist horns. She is also our most fertile cow, calving a month earlier each year. Unblazon an Unlimited daughter is a favorite because of her perfect conformation, great udder and very substantial horn. One Red Shoe a Roundup's Sage daughter is a favorite due to her purple roan color and her heavy horn base. ZD Delta Creampuff's Cash is another favorite because of her perfect conformation and size as well as her flat twisty horn.
